A Porch, a Call, and a Commitment: Going Above and Beyond

The call came from a single parent—overwhelmed, exhausted, and seeking help. A newborn had just arrived, and the older child, a student on the autism spectrum, was experiencing severe behavioral challenges. Each attempt to prepare the student for school led to physical aggression and emotional escalation. The student had not been to school in a long time. With no support system in place and rising stress in the home, the parent turned to the school for help.

The school team responded immediately with a home visit. Upon arrival, a dangerous discovery was made. While walking to the front door, a team member nearly fell through a rotted and weathered front porch. The structure posed a serious safety risk to everyone in the home.

Following the visit, the school principal contacted Victory’s CEO to report the conditions and the family’s situation. Without delay, Nick dispatched the school’s maintenance crew to the residence. By the end of the week, a new front porch had been built—safe, sturdy, and secure.

This act went beyond wood and nails. It ensured physical safety, honored dignity, and demonstrated that urgent needs would not be met with red tape but with real solutions. The Above and Beyond fund exists for moments like this—when doing the right thing cannot wait.

This is what it means to go above and beyond—meeting critical needs with compassion, speed, and commitment.
